Dasharah (duh-shar-uh) is an English PhD student at The CUNY Graduate Center. She received a BA in English honors with a double minor in Africana Studies honors and Political Science from John Jay College in 2017. In May 2020, she earned an MA in English from St. John’s University.

Dasharah uses her experiences growing up in pre-gentrified Brooklyn as a backdrop to explore the intersections of blackness and Black life. Her research intersects radical pedagogy and Black feminist theory/praxis under the umbrella of decolonization studies. She uses language as a tool to reimagine and uncover/track histories and genealogies of Black life through writing and storytelling.

Dasharah has several creative writing pieces and scholarly essays published in various interdisciplinary journals. She also has experience teaching First- Year Writing at her alma mater, John Jay College. She enjoys the process of collaboration and community based learning/writing. Dasharah is able to practice writing as a reciprocal process as a Writing Consultant and Copy Editor. She is currently building her Digital/Audio production portfolio as a Digital Storytelling Coordinator.
